This is basically X-Men in book form and I loved the first half! The push/pull of the two MC's was exactly how I like my romantic conflicts. Exactly. However somewhere around the 60% mark I started to get really frustrated. Alex is innocent, inexperienced and sweet - so sweet and gentle that it bordered on ridiculous because his life has been anything but and it played off on him sounding too naive. He's supposed to be one of the strongest deviants (aka mutant), but he's quite impotent in his powers. Overall I liked the premise but another frustrating point is that this book was written in 2012 and there is no sequel in sight. Grrrr.
